We’ve Reduced our Global Footprint by the Length of the State of Florida!

Earth Day celebrates people who are taking action to protect and support our environment. Earth Day aims to engage people to tackle issues like pollution, climate change, depletion of the ozone layer and deforestation. The earth is facing serious problems, and now is the time to act!

At Rise Against Hunger, we acknowledge that there is work to be done when it comes to finding a sustainable solution for the plastic materials we use. When our meal packaging program started in 2005, our top priorities were ensuring our meals were FDA approved, cost-effective for our volunteer groups and providing maximum nutritional benefits for people around the world. Fast forward to today, and we know that in our efforts to end world hunger, we simultaneously need to put a dedicated focus on refining our systems to eliminate our global footprint.

In 2011, we started partnering with a company called Rocket Industrial to help us achieve our goal of reducing plastic waste. By changing the materials in our plastic wrap, we have been able to reduce waste by over 3.6 tons “” stretched to a length of over 417 miles. To put that into perspective, that’s nearly the length of the state of Florida.

As an organization, we still have a long way to go when it comes to continuing to reduce our global footprint, but we know we are on the right track. Rise Against Hunger plans to continue to explore sustainable initiatives and in the future plans to work with sustainability experts on additional options to even further reduce our plastic use.
